All Glory to the God of Hope
Colossians 1:18 (NASB) He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything (see also - Philippians 2:9-11).
When most people hear the word church, the first thing they think of is a certain type of building. But the church is much more than that.
In Matthew 16:18, Jesus said, "I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" (KJV). Jesus had something much greater in mind than a mere building. He was referring to the whole body of Christ, which is composed of all believers.
The church began on the day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit came and anointed a group of Jesus' followers (Acts 2). And it has continued since that time as the Lord has been adding more believers -"living stones"- to create "a spiritual house for a holy priesthood (1 Peter 2-7).
The church is not just a place for social interaction or fellowship, though these are important aspects of its ministry. The church is the entire body of Christ, corporately and individually filled and enabled by the Holy Spirit to carry out the task designated by Jesus Christ Himself. The church's purpose is to bring people to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ and to make disciples, instructing them and growing them up in the things of God (Matthew 28:19-20).
As we enter into the Fall season approaching the time of year we begin our plans for Christmas to celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ, let us also be mindful of The Church and set aside some time to ask the Lord what role we could be filling in the life and ministry of His Church (1 Corinthians 12:1-30).
Please join us as we gather as a church to worship, pray and fellowship in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
