A Father's Example
Proverbs 9: 1-9
For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just, so that the Lord will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him. Genesis 18:19
Here in God’s Word we hear that God has chosen Abraham to direct his household and especially his children in the ways of the Lord. What an honor to be chosen by God to do such a wonderful task of leading a family which in turn would lead many people to the knowledge of the goodness of God Almighty. God has chosen a father to lead and direct his family in righteousness.
This is true of fathers today as well. God has given this great honor to men to lead their households spiritually. (Proverbs 9:1-9) And this month of June is a month that holds the day we give praise, honor, and glory to God for our fathers. The celebration of our fathers can surely lead us to such great memories.
We have memories of fishing trips or playing catch or the life lessons taught to us by someone we knew had our best interests at hand. I remember watching my own father who was a real man’s man. Tough as nails and raised two sons. I watched with my brother’s daughter and later with my own daughters how this tough guy could throw the best tea party ever.
I think that our fathers can be an example of how we learn to depend on and trust our Heavenly Father. We know we can depend on our fathers to protect and guide us in life’s ups and downs. Just having this strong father in our lives teaches us how to turn to God for the ultimate true protection and guidance through our faith in Jesus Christ and receiving the Holy Spirit.
So, let us celebrate our earthly fathers and thank them for all they do and never forget to give praise, honor, and glory to God that He would give us these great men we call Dad.
