Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. For all you men who do not know, Valentine’s Day is February 14th. I do not have to remind the women because this has been etched into their memories. It is a day to be filled with love. Not just any ole love either. This is that romantic love that a man has for a woman. A day to remember that love and to remind our loved one just how much their love means to us. Many of us men will run around finding the perfect card and a nice box of candy or some roses. Maybe even jewelry. Who knows? The thing is we want to show that special someone just how much we love them. I hope that this one day out of the year reminds us that we should show that love every single day. This such a special love that we show.
There is a greater love that has been shown. It is not of a romantic nature. It is called agape love. Agape is a selfless and unconditional love that can only come from God. It is a love like no other. It is because of this agape love that God shed His grace on us through the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Even in all of our sin, God loved us enough to send His only Son that whoever would believe in Him would not perish, but would have life everlasting. (John 3:16) You see, God made Him who knew no sin to be sin so that in Him we could be seen as the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21) This is God’s grace given to us as a gift because of the love He has for us.
So go out and show that romantic love to your special someone. Show brotherly love to your neighbor. Show that love of a parent to a child. But just know this, we learned to love because God has already loved us. So in all things give thanks to God by having faith in Him and knowing he is our only Hope and knowing His is the greatest love of all. Happy Valentine’s Day and Blessings, Pastor Allan Shedd
