Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many will enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. Matthew 7:13-14
This world we live in has much to offer that leads to sin and death. But here in our scriptures today, we read that Jesus has offered us a Way that leads to life. Jesus tells us that the gate and path is narrow. This means we will have hardships in our lives, but we can take heart that if we will only listen to God’s call in our lives and respond with repentance of sin, confession of Jesus as Lord, and believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead, we will be saved. (Romans 10:9) This is a great comfort to know that we will only suffer for a little while when those hardships come into our lives. (1 Peter 5:10)
When we put our faith in Christ and Christ alone, we become a new creation, and we desire to follow Jesus in obedience even when it is not popular and the world tries to convince us there is an easier way. The truth is there is only one Way that leads to eternal life and that is Jesus. (John 14:6) So let us take the narrow gate that leads to life and leave what the world has to offer behind.
